We welcome all men and women who show a commitment to historical study, such as:
- Working on a history-based project of scholarly merit
- History-focused publications, films, exhibitions, tours, talks, etc.
- Graduate study in history or a related discipline
- History teaching background
- History museum staff or docent experience
Members receive:
- A collegial, supportive forum for presenting their work
- Opportunities to meet and learn from scholars with similar and varied interests
- Quarterly Newsletter and e-mail updates
- Invitations to special events
- Member roster, listing members’ areas of interest
Members are also eligible for:
- Mini-grants for research expenses
- Fiscal sponsorship for grants
- Assistance with grant applications
- Exposure for their projects on this website
- Book reviews in Institute newsletter
- University of California, Berkeley library cards at a discount
- Letters of introduction to libraries and archives
- Institute letterhead for professional correspondence
